Design and Design Support Services. Solve your design problems and short term staff availability challenges today.
Please use the ‘Inquiry and Questions’ link any time.

Services

The services outlined below are typically conducted outside IR35 with work scopes lasting upto 1000 man hours – approximately around 6 months work at 40 hours a week. They break down in to Primary and Secondary services.

Primary Services

Primary services give exceptional value for Client’s by reaching a baseline design in a minimal timeframe. Efficient, comprehensive, and cost effective design work takes place making best use of the broad experience and proven methodical approach that I offer. (See Least Cost Design Philosophy section for further information.)

1/ Design & drafting of small stand-alone items. (From £45.00 / hr)
Outsourcing design work for smaller anciliary items allows key staff to remain focused on the main project deliverables. Examples of small stand-alone items (often ‘first of a kind’ items) are things like test rigs, specialised lifting equipment, jigs / fixtures / tooling, and handling rigs. Some items designed in the past fitting this genre are
shown at the bottom. Any design work done would include the relevant design justification and substantiation documentation.

2/ Using inherited 3D models to create 2D detail drawings. (From £27.50 / hr)
This work can be done quickly and cost effectively with very fast turnaround times. Inquiries welcome.

3/ Taking 2D drawings and creating 3D CAD models from it. (From £27.50 / hr)
This work can also be done with very fast turnaround times. Inquire anytime.

4/ Site surveys by manual measurement or laser scans. (From £500 / day)
Survey info is turned into 3D CAD data as a matter of routine. Laser surveys offer the added advantage of exceptional speed and accuracy, thus offers strong cost and time-frame advantages compared to doing manual surveys. High quality 3D data is a pre-requisite when new equipment has to be installed along side existing items, so its particularly well suited for
busy plant rooms or where old equipment is due to be up-graded to accept new items.

 Secondary Services

The Secondary service are more aligned with ‘run of the mill’ contract worker activities, where oprotunities for adding value as a result of having specific expertise are limited. These services are more typically straight forward time dependent activities such as providing manpower cover during recruitment, document authoring, checking drawings, Change note processing work, etc.

A/ Cover while recruiting, or project slippage recovery work. (POA.)
Day to day run of the mill contract work, and support with interpretting and delivering MoD equipment – how to substatiate the requirements, interpret SoD’s / SoW’s (Sched of work / deliverables)

B/ Authoring documents, user guides, work instructions, procedures, etc. (POA.)
EG. User guides for Teamcenter , DOORS, SAP, CAD Training guides, product user manuals, etc.

C/ One to one CAD training for 3D Design methods. (POA.)
The training follows the approach outlined in the tab for
Least Cost Designs, an approach as covered elsewhere on this website.

Examples of small anciliary item designs

Magnox. A purge trolly to ensure all hydrogen is removed from DCIC containers.
Magnox. Wet waste Transfer Rig. Top image shows the yellow DCIC's for transfer, and the bottom image is the rig.
Magnox. The Advanced Vacuum Drying System (AVDS) plant room layout showing the main drying plant in one corner.
Magnox. The AVDS plant room layout showing 2 of the 8 work stations
NEG Micon. An internal crane system for wind turbine equipment swap outs. Crane is modular to be carried to the turbine hub by the service crew.
Molins. A tray buffering 'infeed / outfeed' machine. A module for use with other cigarette manufacturing plant modules.
Robdale. A modification to factory plant machines used for wrapping 2 tonne paper reels.
Applied Materials. Test rig for a reduced volume vacuum chamber. (The smaller the volume, the faster the pump down time, but will the handling mechanism fit inside?)
Marconi. A directional Radar mechanism for a wingpod.
